Rebecca DeGraaf, PhD

I am a licensed psychologist with more than twenty years experience working with adults to address depression, anxiety and trauma. I hold degrees in Applied Social Psychology and Counseling Psychology and received my clinical training in diverse settings (e.g., a community mental health center, inpatient hospital and college counseling centers).  Prior to working exclusively in private practice, I worked at a treatment center for chemically dependent women and their children and at a hospital-based outpatient cognitive behavioral group program.

My approach to therapy reflects the diversity of my training and employment.  While I use strategies from cognitive behavioral and Gestalt therapies, I think early childhood and adolescent experiences are often related to problematic adult patterns.  I help clients figure out the personal and relational patterns that influence behavior and mood.  However, I also pay attention to how cultural and economic factors impact client concerns. Essentially, I work to create the safety, regard and respect needed for great self-acceptance and change.
